DESCRIPTION

The Mark Levinson No. 5802 is built for the way many people listen now: entirely through digital sources. Designed and built in the USA, it brings the company’s long-standing standards to a more attainable price point and borrows technology directly from the flagship No. 585.5. It pairs fully discrete PurePath circuitry with dual-monaural Class AB amplification, delivering 125 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 250 watts into 4 ohms, enough to drive a wide range of speakers with composure. At its core is Mark Levinson’s second-generation PrecisionLink II DAC, which offers seven selectable PCM filters and three selectable DSD filters and can upsample incoming signals to 352.8kHz or 384kHz, so you can tune the sound to your taste. A single USB input, AES/EBU, two coaxial and two optical inputs, and aptX Bluetooth cover just about any digital source, while a dedicated Class A MainDrive headphone stage makes private listening a first-rate experience in its own right. A variable-level analog output lets the 5802 work as a preamplifier for a separate power amplifier, and Ethernet, RS-232, IR, and 12V trigger connections make it easy to integrate into a custom system. Add the classic Mark Levinson look, with a thick bead-blasted front panel, red LED display, and redesigned hourglass knobs, and you have a component that reviewers called a thoroughbred Mark Levinson with a fresh, stylish twist.
