DESCRIPTION

The Heresy exists because someone told Paul W. Klipsch it couldn't be done. He was developing a compact speaker to sit between two Klipschorns, and an acquaintance objected that it violated corner-horn principles outright that it amounted to acoustic heresy. Klipsch kept the insult and put it on the badge. The speaker arrived in 1957 and, in one of the better ironies in audio, became a fixture in church sound reinforcement.

The fourth generation

Three-way and horn-loaded, the Heresy IV pairs a K-702 midrange compression driver polyimide diaphragm, mounted to a K-704 Tractrix horn for wide, even coverage with a K-107-TI titanium-diaphragm tweeter carrying a redesigned wide-dispersion phase plug. The crossover network was rebuilt for this generation.

The rear port changes things

For the first time in the model's history, the Heresy is ported. That single change extends low-frequency response by roughly 10Hz, which is the difference between a speaker that needs a subwoofer and one that mostly doesn't. The Tractrix port geometry uses custom inner flares to reduce turbulence at the port mouth, so the added output arrives clean rather than as chuffing. If you've heard a Heresy III and found it lean downstairs, this is the version worth revisiting.

Efficiency, and what it means for your amplifier

Like every Heritage design, the Heresy IV is highly efficient, which puts a whole category of amplification on the table SET, push-pull tube, low-power Class A that simply won't drive a conventional bookshelf speaker properly. That pairing is a large part of why these have stayed in the catalogue for nearly seventy years.

Made in Hope

Cabinets are built to order and handcrafted in Hope, Arkansas. Heritage pairs use book-matched veneer leaves cut from the same timber and kept in sequence, so the grain mirrors across the pair. A 10-year warranty is included.
